[RESOLVED] 23 September - Error upon creating new user account

I created a new user account. With my first trial, i made a typo in one of the password fields, so the system told me they did not match. When I corrected this, i got the following errormessage:

A SourceForge system error has occurred. Error while executing command: useradd '-g' 'users' '-s' '/usr/local/sourceforge/sourceforge_home/bin/Linux/cvssh' '-d' '/home/batje' '-m' 'batje' - Could not add user:Stderr: "" Stdout: ""

If you feel you have received this message in error, please contact the SourceForge administrator and reference this tracking number: exid4223FAE9010681EC888EB0B5

I did receive the confirmation email, but clicking the link told me that there was an error in the system, too.

I'm ready to post my JoomlalalaFM module, but now i cannot! (it's available from http://www.simama.net/reinierinit/joomlalalalastfm for the time being though)

rgds, reinier

That way we don't have to feel special or un-special  :'(

You're all special  ;)

Yes - there is a problem. Looks like new accounts cannot be created. Visitors can still access the site, all public projects are accessible with default access permissions.

The support team is on it as I type. I'll post updates as I get them form Doug and team.

I'm making this sticky so we don't get zillions of additional posts.

Thanks Boomzilla, I figured you-all were on top of it.

From developer.joomla.org site support:

"I had to take the site down to determine exactly what was going on, but I figured it out. However, it appears to be an OS-limitation.
I'm going to file a bug with Engineering on it. Unfortunately, until it's resolved, no new users can be added to the site.

I believe I have a solution, but I need to do some testing.

Thanks!

Update:

We've spent time with 'strace' and found that the useradd was failing when reading in /etc/gshadow .. Doug took the site down for a few minutes, and played with the file. It seems that the sfall group is TOO big and causes the seg fault. If you remove anyone from the group, it works just fine...

Doug has a proposed solution that the engineering team is looking at. I'll post furthe rupdates as soon as I receive them.

OK - we have a solution. Doug will make the changes, take the integration server down for a few seconds and then bring it back up.

Yup - confirmed. Users can now register accounts. Thanks for your patience.
(and thanks Doug, Dan, Chary et al)

I'll leave this post sticky for about 48 hours just so folks can see that it's fixed.

I don't know if this is just me - I tried again about half an hour ago, and I am not receiving the confirmation e-mail.
What do I do now?  I could try with a different username, but i don't want to bombard the system with spammy accounts.

If it is just me - then I will just try again. If anyone else gets the same then please speak up.

Dean.

Hi Dean,

I found two accounts in your name: one of them is approved while the other still in pending state. Have you created the second account since the first did not send confirmation?

Hi Chary,

Sorry, I should have posted back.

In total I made four attempts. Two during the problem period - which obviously didn't work. Then the one from which I didn't receive the confirmation e-mail. As I seem to be the only one with the problem - I assumed it was just one of those spurious happenings and after a suitable pause I did create the other account, which has been successfully activated.

Please remove the unconfirmed account.

Cheers

Dean

I'm now "unsticky'ing" this thread as this problem is now several days behind us.
