Should Accessibility Hack extension be updated by dev or remove?

Post by duvien » Mon Jul 31, 2006 10:31 am

For security reasons i think someone should contact the dev team of Accessibility Hack: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/ to either update their extension if they have the time or remove it from the extension list since it is only available for older version of Joomla (which we know is less secure than the latest 1.0.10 build).

Virtuemart recently removed their full ecommerce package for security reasons because it was packaged along with an older version of Joomla which is good they were aware of this and took action to safe guard users.

thanks,

duvien

Same goes with Run Digital 508Hack: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
which is only for Joomla! 1.0.7

Good point. I've emailed the address for that component, advising them of this thread and inviting a response.

Hi,

as we are responsible for the development of the Accessibilty Hack we want you to notice, that we currently do not want to upgrate to Joomla 1.0.10! Currently we are within several commercial projects. So there is to less time to do the upgrate. In addition there is a discussion going on, if acceskeys and the tabindex is needed to have an fully accesible webside - in most opinions it is not needed. Because of that reason and the point, that unordered menu lists can be realised throughout the Joomla menumanager itself, there will be currently no new version.

If there are some community members who are strictly in need of the Hack for the Version 1.0.10, please feel free to contact us. If there are enough maybe we will do an rerelease in the near future for 1.0.10.

In my opinion it would be ok, if you would delete all Extensions which are not compatible to the actual Joomla issue.

Regards Tim.

Ok, what I've done is unpublished it, rather than simply remove it. That way if you do feel that it's worthwhile upgrading your extension all you need to do is let us know that you've done it and we can switch it on again.

Are you aware of any other extensions that relate to this hack? I'll have to unpublish them too.
