Core hacks to have its own section or subsection on forums ?

Post by typera » Fri Sep 30, 2005 9:37 am

I have been using Mambo and now Joomla for quiet some time (since 4.5.0) and I think that a section or subsection for core hacks would be really useful.

It would serve two purposes:
1. Communication between members who have exhausted searches for 3rd party addons to achieve a task and now considering hacking the core. To be honest its clear that its not recommended (think upgrading = nightmare) however its sometimes required, which brings me to point two.

2. Direct demonstration of requirements from community to the core dev team. Dev team could consider most popular hacks to be integrated into core in future releases.

I honestly think this would save people time searching as hacks are scattered all over the place and I think they to need a section like modules/components/templates development have.

Cheers,
Max

I will talk to some of the other devs and see what they have to say on the issue. However at the moment you might like to use this forum: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,127.0.html

Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks Brad, however that is more targeted at developing (ie adding new rather then changing existing code).

I have made some changes to a few modules and core includes which in my opinion would be of a benefit to others. (ie not for specific niche requirements but quiet general ones so would be of use to most).

Also if you do end up starting up something like that, I think it would be nice to have separate subsections for Mambo 4.5.2.x, Joomla v1. Reason being I think most of the core hacks that will be posted at the start will be mainly for mambo, as people slowly migrate across.

Max
