Re: Evesham Baptist Church

Oh dear, I thought I'd take another look, see how things are going with your church's site but all I get is this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/eveshamb/public_html/joomla/components/com_sef/sef.php on line 24

Re: Discussion : Logo Winner Annoucement

I remember when front page news at The Onion was that Microsoft had applied to patent the numbers 0 and 1, hoping for royalty payments from any computer company that used these two numbers. Hilarious!

Can Microsoft really have the copyright on the 4 colors I was painting with in school, long before Microsoft was a company?

Re: Discussion : Logo Winner Annoucement

For those who are busy thinking the Joomla! logo looks similar to the MS core files images posted further up this page, they should consider the similarity of those to Apple Computer's Command symbol which has been around since 1982! I'm happy to have been one of those that voted for the winning log...

Re: Some thoughts on non-profits...

The phrase Nic used in his opening post that I use is "not for profit". A games web site, the Red Cross, and many, many others, have as their focus, a passion for what they are doing that goes beyond business sense. For example, I have spent 7 years without pay compiling a directory of my country's ...

Re: Evesham Baptist Church

So is findachurch think of going joomla on us then? We have to make the leap to a databased web site to include new features (I'd call them desperately needed or long overdue, actually) and a Joomla!/Mambo expert is currently looking at what we are trying to do and whether this could and should be ...

I like it - clean and clear. The only things that look out of place are the orange arrows in the breadcrumbs path and for the 'top' link. They would look better if they matched the yellow colour at the top of the header image.

Re: My non-profit sites

I'm new to Mambo & Joomla! so you'll need someone that knows more than I do to help. I am wondering whether the menu bar is a graphic or done with css. What you need is a menu bar than will change its height (but not its width) based upon the space (ie. number of lines) the text requires.

Re: My non-profit sites

Good news - that's fixed it. Bad news - *NEW* forum seems to be cause of the problem - needing a deeper menu box. I thought I'd see what would happen to the menu bar if I changed the font size in my browser - it doesn't change the menu bar height, which is fine if I want smaller than standard text. ...

w The somthing messy happening. It seems that the menu bar uses two lines for text but the page is only allowing space for one, hence "You are here. Home" is half hidden. It's funny who you come across on a forum in the middle of nowhere! www.findachurch.co.uk is pointing people looking for a church to your church's web site! It looks good.

Re: Some thoughts on non-profits...

Businesses have profits or losses. Charities have surpluses or losses. Both need to cover operating costs. I run a web site for churches. Churches are non-profit. My business is a limited company, not a registered charity but operating in the non-profit sector margins are so slim that I've not manag...

If it's not 'market sensitive', it would be helpful if there was some guidance on what a sensible donation would be (one for business users and another for personal and non-profit users) for those that wanted to voluntarily support OSM and Joomla!

If you buy Building Websites with Mambo by Hagen Graf, you will run into some problems trying to work through Chapter 6 because of two errors in both the book and the accompanying files you can download: 1) Line 1 on page 194 needs a space and a period (full stop) at the end of the line. just two things: 1) Please make the body font larger, it seems silly to have to Ctrl+/Cmd+ on every forum page I open. 2) Profile > Show Posts - the links in the header of each post are almost as pale as the background so they could do with being a bit darker. Re: New Logo

Maybe a sensible thing would be for the Core Team to choose the best ones in their opinion and put up a poll for the community to vote on those. That way they get a significant say in the logo and the community can see that it gets to choose the actual one, democratically.
