I'd like to see something that captures the meaning of the name. While I quite like some of the graphics done so far, I'm not sure any really give a feel for the meaning in the imagery.

Now, I'm not much of a graphics person, but I'll try to describe what I'm seeing in my head and maybe someone else can run with one or both of them.

1. An image of the globe with the name Joomla! stretched around it. Could also work with just J! in front of the globe as an icon. Maybe even have it look like crowds of people standing on each continent.

2. An image that looks like a crowd of people, from above (but not directly overhead - maybe at a 45 or 60 degree angle) with Joomla! superimposed over it.

These may not end up looking good at all in implentation, but I thought I'd make my little contribution anyway!  ;D

i like the sophistication of the new joomla site and i think the logo should have a similar 'feel' - feels good!

who knows, maybe angular and square is the new curved and bubbly, ie the new black....hrm hehe

Some of those are really interesting, some of them leave me so so.  I'm not a graphic designer by *any* stretch of the imagination, so I won't try my hand at a logo.

I admit, I like the idea of having *2* graphics, one being the full name (guys, include the 'tm' as well as the exclamation mark, it's trademarked, let's flaunt it).  The other just the J and the exclamation mark, to be used elsewhere, perhaps smaller, like the "flower" mambo uses.

I do think that we need to be able to clearly read the name (unlike reply #43, which looks cool, but can't be easily tied to the name).  Joomla! will be an unusual enough name that the logo/representation must allow viewers to see it straight away.

Here is one I have been working on since I saw the new site. Love the color scheme so wanted to stick with the same look. The first one shows the logo by itself. The second shows my guides to show that everything is very specifically placed for a reason (and that I'm anal about good design structure  ). The upside down "j" in the orb represents the "!" and the "oo" in the type represents community/infinity.

Experimenting with different colors... will make one that matches the new site's color scheme. I like the idea of the slogan being simply "All together"

Just a quick note of caution before folks get too far into things...

Trademarks apply not only to names but also to logotypes and other graphics (think the 'M' arch used by McDonalds).

While the name 'Joomla!' has, no doubt, been fully checked, there's no guarantee that logotypes based solely or mainly on the use  of a 'J' or 'J!' can be safely used, so any such logos will have to be subjected to a trademark search as well.
