I'm guessing the link didn't make it through the conversion when we moved to phpbb3. Not sure what the link is myself, but I'll see if I can find out.

Re: Accessing an external database from a joomla module
What you have looks ok to me. I always get messed up when I start going back and forth trying to figure out what's passing by reference. Probably why I didn't become a career coder ;). Sounds like you've got a lead to follow. Glad to hear about what you come up with, if anything. I haven't found any...

Re: Accessing an external database from a joomla module
Something I may do some research on myself. Seems to be something that a lot of people would use. I am sure someone out there has done it (a few bridges out there that work). I'll see what I can dig up.

Re: Accessing an external database from a joomla module
Greetings. I do know there has been some discussion on connecting to external databases. Here's a tip on connecting to an external db:
http://dev.joomla.org/component/option, ... _database/
Not sure if it will help, but it can't hurt.

Re: Templates look different after DEMO data is installed
Ok. I'm not going to move this thread, specifically because you are not using a template provided by Joomla. You're going to need to contact the creator of the template and ask them about the functionality since they created it, and how best to utilize it. If you're going to try to create your own t...

Not sure if it's possible or not, but with a dynamic number of categories and items, it seems like it would have to be some hefty code to dynamically generate it on a sizable store. How many items are you planning on having in that menu?

I'll see if I can address your questions, but first you will have to answer a few of mine so we can get you in the right place.
1. What version of Joomla are you working with?
2. What template are you working with?
These are rather key in helping you.

You would more than likely need to create a bridge application.

Probably. Nothing I know of for Joomla that has that kind of functionality.so far the only way i've seen of doing this is spending hundreds on a programmer to make the module.

I believe yours is passing the value of the string, the other is passing a reference to the value.

Re: How do I change from default wording on the banner?
Not a problem. There is a TON of resources for Joomla, but it does take time to really sift through things. Search can be helpful. Just learning the best way to search can be a challenge all by itself. I google most of my Joomla questions and typically find answers that way. You'd be surprised where...

Nice site. More than likely the question wasn't answered at the time because it was a template question, and this is the coding forum. I wasn't around at the time for personal reasons, so it probably was overlooked.
Sorry about that, but glad you found something that worked!

Re: Building Feature with Separate Database
Easy is a matter of perspective. Are you a programmer? Database designer? If so, yes this can be done. Is is relatively easy? Well, I don't know if I would say creating custom components and modules 'easy'. Otherwise everyone would be doing them. It can be done, yes. If you look in extensions manage...

Re: 1 Css to apply home page layout different from its subpages?
You can create 'collapsable' columns, that would allow you to accomplish what you are looking for. It's a mix of css and php coding. Here's a good article that details it a bit: http://www.webreference.com/authoring/style/sheets/joomla_templates3/index.html If you just want to have the same columns,...
